Our Story

How it all started...

Sheffield Church of God has a rich history and heritage within the area and has seen Gods provision and grace time after time. The church started as Lorain Church of God in 1958 with a letter from Minnie Breeding.

From there the church moved and continued to be blessed by God to grow and expand its ministry in the Lorain area. In 1984 the church was destroyed by a fire but God was faithful. For 1.5 years the church met in St. Anthony's of Padua Catholic Church until the facilities were built at our current campus in 1985.

Expanding the vision...

Once the church had moved to the new facilities built in Sheffield Village they hired in a youth pastor and a minister of music in 1986 and began to expand the ministry and community outreach of Sheffield Church of God. The staff and leadership pushed into new territory stating a radio broadcast of two services from the church, High Power and Higher Power.

Each and every single pastor that came to Sheffield Church continued to build upon the legacy and heritage of the past and expanded the church and its missions. The heart of the church was always summed up in our mission statement. The Church love is building, and we strive to continue that work today.

Where we are headed...

Since the beginning God has always been the author of the Church's story and you can see that through the many times He provided provision for His people and His mission. Today we still experience His provision and guidance as He made a way for us to pay off the church in entirety in 2021.

Sheffield Church continues in the spirit of its predecessors of continuing to expand the outreach and impact of the church in new and creative ways. Always our central focus is continuing to build the love of the church. Today we embark upon an exciting journey to continue to move forward, build for the future, and grow together...
