We Abide In Christ: Hearts Ablaze

Feb 8, 2026    Pastor Nathan

This message confronts us with a powerful challenge: are we truly prepared for Christ's return, or have we allowed the American church to become distracted by arguments, opinions, and worldly mechanisms? Drawing from the beautiful story of the Emmaus disciples in Luke 24, we're reminded of what happens when Jesus walks alongside us and opens the Scriptures—our hearts burn within us. These two disciples were arguing about recent events, much like we argue today over theology, church methods, and cultural issues. Yet Jesus stepped into the middle of their dispute and redirected them to what mattered: understanding Scripture and recognizing His presence. The message calls us to examine whether we're building churches on entertainment, self-help teachings, and attracting crowds, or whether we're truly magnifying Jesus and allowing His Word to transform us. Like the temple cleansing in Matthew 21, we need to remove anything that pollutes the house of God and return to being a house of prayer. The parable of the ten virgins becomes urgently relevant—five were prepared with extra oil, five were not. When the bridegroom arrived, only those who had invested in their relationship with God were ready. This isn't about just showing up to church; it's about truly knowing Jesus, being consecrated, and maintaining spiritual discipline so our lamps stay burning until He returns.
