The Holy Disruption: Week 1

Dec 7, 2025    Pastor Nathan Harvey

This powerful message invites us to examine our hearts through the lens of three distinct responses to Jesus' birth found in Matthew 2:1-12. Like a king riding victoriously into his city with eyes fixed only on Christ, we're challenged to consider where our true focus lies in this Advent season. The sermon presents three heart postures that mirror responses we still see today: the hostile heart of King Herod, who viewed Jesus as a threat to his control; the indifferent heart of the religious leaders, who possessed knowledge but lacked passion; and the worshipful heart of the wise men, who traveled great distances simply to encounter the King. The irony is striking—Gentile outsiders acclaimed Jesus as King while religious insiders eventually demanded His crucifixion. This 'holy disruption' that Jesus brought into the world continues to challenge us today. Are we threatened by surrendering control? Have we become so comfortable with religious routine that we've lost our wonder? Or are we willing to seek Him with the diligence and joy of those ancient travelers, offering everything we have in worship? The call is clear: when fear makes us hostile, when comfort makes us indifferent, we must choose worship—seeking the King above all else with gladness and generosity.
