We Abide In Christ: Connected to the Vine

Jan 18, 2026    Pastor Nathan Harvey

Follow along with us this week as we explore personal connection and the mutual indwelling. This powerful message invites us into the profound truth of John 15—that we are designed for a derivative life, incapable of producing spiritual fruit on our own. Like branches connected to a vine, we don't generate life; we simply host what flows through us from Christ. The sermon challenges our modern obsession with self-sufficiency and reminds us that authentic Christian living isn't about checking religious boxes or performing spiritual duties. Instead, it's about remaining—abiding—in intimate connection with Jesus. Through the imagery of the vine and branches, we discover that God isn't interested in our performance but in our presence with Him. The pruning process, though uncomfortable, isn't punishment but preparation for greater fruitfulness. We're encouraged to practice what Brother Lawrence called 'the presence of God'—recognizing that the Lord walks among the pots and pans of our everyday lives, not just in sanctuary moments. When we allow God's Word to dwell richly within us, becoming what Spurgeon called 'Bibline'—so saturated with Scripture that it flows through our very being—we find that obedience becomes less burdensome and joy becomes complete. The ultimate invitation is to stop striving in our own strength and instead surrender to the life-giving flow that comes only from remaining connected to the true Vine.
