Psalm 139 Part 2

Nov 9, 2025    Pastor Nathan Harvey

This powerful message from Psalm 139 confronts us with a truth that is both humbling and liberating: we cannot escape God's presence. The sermon walks us through David's profound realization that whether we ascend to heaven or descend to the depths, whether we fly to the eastern horizon or flee to the western sea, whether we hide in darkness or stand in light, God is already there. This isn't a message meant to terrify us, but to comfort us. We explore God's omnipresence through three dimensions: vertical (life and death), horizontal (proximity and distance), and spiritual (light and darkness). The most striking insight is that while we inherited an instinct to hide from God due to our sin—just like Adam and Eve—running from Him always costs us something. Yet here's the hope: there is no darkness so deep, no distance so far, no circumstance so dire that God's grace cannot reach us. The sermon challenges our modern tendency to trust GPS navigation more readily than we trust God's guidance in our lives. We recalculate our routes constantly because we turn away from His leading, preferring our own direction. The ultimate invitation is to stop running and start surrendering, recognizing that God Himself—not success, wealth, or recognition—is the reward. When we understand that we can never outrun His love, mercy, and grace, we discover we have unescapable blessings in our lives.
